Search engines are the hidden secret of the Internet. PC Experts use them all the time to mine useful information and software hidden away on servers around the world. The ones featured here are divided into two groups for a reason. The Innernet engines, the ones on top, cast large nets that bring back tightly grouped assortments of quality hits. You're probably familiar with most of those underneath them. Although useful when buying something, they often point back to their own sites, or those of corporate sponsors in search results.

Seeing The Light

A bit confused at this point? The Internet chapter of my book provides a little background that will help you better understand why the search tools on the bottom list should be your last resort.

The engines on top stay truer to the original idea of this powerful environment. The concept once was to roam the servers of the world in search of knowledge. Today the trend is to settle for information that's frought to you. Road test a few of the top tools against the commnercial ones to see what I mean. Before you do, why not click on the button below to take a look at part of the Internet chapter from my upcoming book on PCs?

Why turn to outdated reference books written by second parties when you can go right to the source and learn from the experts? Who knows more about the true history of this ancient period than Egyptian scholars and archeologists?
